About Gruma

Gruma was started 65-years ago by a man named Don Roberto Gonzalez Barrera who was a young, enthusiastic visionary and entrepreneur. He showed his great commercial sensitivity when he discovered an old mill in Reynosa Tamaulipas that had been producing 18 tons of corn flour for making tortillas per month and decided that tortillas could be a very successful industry. He took his idea to his father, who was a researcher and engineer named Don Roberto M. Gonzalez Gutierrez. So, father and son together revolutionized the traditional method of making tortillas in Mexico.

Today, Grumman is proud to be a global food company, as well as the leading flour and corn tortilla producer in the world, as well a manufacturer of flatbreads, wraps, pitas, snacks, and condiments. International expansion has led to a major worldwide presence, including operations in 112 countries globally under Guerrero, Maseca, and Mission in the U.S., as well as Tasty and Tortillas in Costa Rica. Using new and innovative technologies, Gruma has been successful at expanding its product and services portfolio for the purpose of catering to the varying cultures, lifestyles, and needs of its customers worldwide. Uses for Mission Tortillas

There are numerous uses for both Guerrero and Mission tortillas, and each one is as tasty as can be. Corn tortillas are used for tacos, tostadas, huevos rancheros, homemade tortilla chips, and so much more. For tacos, all you need is cooked ground beef, chicken, fish or pork, lettuce, tomatoes and shredded cheddar, Colby, or Monterey Jack cheese, depending on your preference. To make them spicier, just add chopped chilis, jalapenos or hot sauce. Many taco connoisseurs like onions on them as well, but when you get right down to it, the choice is all yours.

Tostados are made in a similar fashion to tacos, but the Mission tortilla is laid flat on the plate and, instead of cradling the ingredients like in tacos, the corn tortilla is topped with the ingredients, which are the same as for tacos. You can, however, add refried or black beans to your tostada for added taste. And, homemade tortilla chips are just so much better than you could ever imagine if you haven't ever made them before. All you do is cut them into triangles and fry them in a deep fryer or a pan of hot oil. Then, just salt and serve with guacamole, bean dip or salsa. Yummm.

Huevos Rancheros will probably turn out to be your go-to breakfast or brunch recipe once you've given them a try. You can use either flour or corn tortillas to make them. Just lay your warmed tortilla flat on your plate, spread with warm refried or black beans, place two fried eggs on top and sprinkle with the shredded cheese of your choice. Microwave for 20 to 30 seconds depending on your microwave's strength and surround the edge of your plate with shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes. You can add chopped chilis, onions, and hot sauce to taste. Voila, an international dish to start the day just right.

Mission flour tortillas are best known for burritos, but they're also perfect for chimichangas, quesadillas, and much more. Many people just like them warmed in the microwave and served with butter. They're excellent this way with a warm bowl of chili topped with melted cheese. They're also quite a treat, especially if you have kids, cut into triangles, cooked in hot oil and topped with cinnamon and sugar. A great accompaniment for ice cream, they could become your fave desert.

Uses for Mission Tortilla Wraps

Wraps are a bit more international, and you can fill them with just about anything. They're excellent filled with chicken salad, grilled steak, hummus, rice, beans, veggies, or just about any cooked meat. Or, the day after Thanksgiving, you could make some yummy leftover turkey wraps complete with cranberry sauce. They're the perfect go-to ingredient for use when packing lunches for taking to work or school. In fact, with wraps, you're only limited by your imagination.
